I Am Not An ASMRtist (I Didn't Listen)

A lesson in humility.

“Hey guyth..”

Guyth? Where the hell did “guyth” come from?

I have no idea, but what I do know is that making ASMR videos isn’t meant for me. I tried twice today but I just don’t have the voice nor the time for it. Apparently, on the most sensitive microphone, I sound like an axe murderer with a lisp, even if I’m not, and I don’t have one.

A lot of people like my voice.

My voice.

Not me whispering, all up in your head and creeper-like.

My ventures into making ASMR videos were well intended. They were no different to what my intentions were of my blog – to help people. As well as helping people tackle depression and anxiety, I also wanted to provice a resource to help people sleep, but you know what? It can’t be done, I can’t do everything.

A good friend of mine once told me this, and you know what I did? I didn’t listen. I wanted to believe I could help and save the world, one peaceful sleep at a time.

But the stats don’t lie.

On my blog, as of today, I have 40+ subscribers in little over a week’s worth of work (amazing!). Hugo has 15 followers on his Facebook page and I had just 6 followers on my ASMR channel, The stats don’t lie, EnglishTingles just isn’t very tingly at all.

So I deleted it.

Lucky for my readers and followers, and perhaps for me too, I’m pretty observant. I notice what works, and so I’m not going to flog a dead horse. I pay attention to the stats, the likes, the follows. If it’s not working, I’m not going to keep wasting my time trying to do it.

It’s quite clear that quite a few of you dig my dog, so it makes more sense to give up on making ASMR, and give you all more of him.

I’ve already created his Instagram today and we’re about to go and re-film his taste testing video (even if he doesn’t know there is more turkey cooked up yet). If my writing is what you want, then my writing is what you’ll get. If my dog is what you want, then my dog is what you’ll get.

It makes no sense in trying to do anything else.

I’ve been listening to this song while I’ve been writing this post. I think it’s quite fitting.

Over and out until next time folks!

Helen xx
